About this property

Welcome to Letterfinlay Lodge house

Letterfinlay Lodge house is a guest house set along the shore of Loch Lochy in the Scottish Highlands, occupying a former 1950s hunting lodge. The property offers warm, lodge-style rooms and suites, some with views of the loch, alongside basic but comfortable amenities including free Wi-Fi, complimentary breakfast, and free parking. A smoke-free environment and an onsite bar add to the convenience, while outdoor enthusiasts can take advantage of the private loch shore beach and nearby natural attractions.

Guests frequently comment on the property's peaceful setting and the rustic charm of the accommodations, although the rooms are described as simple rather than luxurious. Some visitors valued the cozy atmosphere and cleanliness, while noting that cooking facilities are limited to a kettle and microwave rather than full kitchens. The dining experience receives positive remarks, especially for its lakeside views and quality of food, though drinks pricing has been noted as somewhat high.

Attractions like Loch Lochy itself, the Nevis Range Mountain Resort, and the Commando Memorial lie within easy reach, providing options for hiking, biking, and sightseeing. Inverness Airport is about a 1.5-hour drive away, making access to the property reasonably straightforward for visitors traveling by car.

Letterfinlay Lodge house appeals to travelers seeking a scenic, tranquil base with straightforward accommodation and an authentic Highland experience rather than luxury. Some reviews recommend it as a comfortable stop for short stays in the Fort William area, though expectations should be managed regarding room features and facilities.

Beautiful lodge on the loch, stunning views. We went for a weekend to hike Ben Nevis which we couldn’t due to bad weather. 15 minutes drive or so from Fort Williams & Ben Nevis so great location. We made a mistake on thinking kitchen is functional and ended up buying frozen pizza one night but cooker or oven doesn’t work only kettle & microwave works and also has fridge. We were also loud at some point which was disturbing for people staying in the rooms on ground floor but then we were careful other than this overall loved it.

The best part of my stay here was undoubtedly in the eating. The hotel dining room is beautifully laid out, has fantastic views over the loch and, while the drinks were a little overpriced, the food itself (both dinner and breakfast) was absolutely fantastic. The rooms are very basic but nonetheless clean, well-decorated and perfectly acceptable for a short stay. All customers also get access to the hotel's private loch shore beach, accessible via a short path. The main let down was that the small staff complement, while admittedly very friendly and hard working, have too much to do during busy periods, thus leading to all of the nice extras and personal touches you would expect from an excellent hotel being dropped on the wayside. It would also be nice if there were some deserts on the children's menu; we were disapointed to be told that the only way to get a small scoop of ice cream for our toddler was to pay full price for an adult luxury desert. All in all a very nice hotel with the potential to be fantastic with a little more investment.

The lodge house is in a beautiful location which is a convenient drive. For the benefit of others, here's a run down of our stay in the most basic room. There were some minor things but overall we were pleased with our stay. Good: Warm cosy room, welcome respite. Shower good and powerful. No loch view from the room (as expected) but there's a bench outside you can use to enjoy the view. Self check in was smooth. Comfy bed. Fridge, porridge pots, tea/coffee and cereal bars provided and replenished. Good amount of mirrors, and plug sockets by the bed. Watch outs: There was no wifi. Apparently this has been a problem for a few months due to an issue with fibre installation - perhaps a starlink would be a better solution. Thankfully the 4G coverage was ok. Room was very hot, even with the radiator off (a fan is provided though). The room is pretty small, no space for luggage, a rack hanging from the ceiling offers a place to hang your coat but then takes up room. The bedroom window is right by the front door so people could see in. The apartment upstairs has only a curtain blocking it off, no door, so privacy is limited and there's noise.

A friend of mine and I live in the US and were on vacation and traveling throughout Scotland. We stayed at the Letterfinlay Lodge House for three nights. The accommodations and customer service we received were exemplary! If I could give 10 stars on the 5 star scale I would!! THANK YOU Smaxi for making our stay in the Fort William area so special and for helping create some wonderful memories of a lifetime!

Our experience involved just dinner. We were thoroughly impressed and delighted. We had the haddock Mac and cheese which was creamy and delectable. We also had the salmon pizza which was unusual and a great combination. We finished with Scottish bread pudding. How have the Scots perfected their sweets without being overly sweet? American needs to take lessons from them! Stop by for a wonderful meal served by professionals with a view that takes it over the top!

The only negative was that we didn’t stay longer. For the quality, location and price, it is next to impossible to find a better place to stay in near to Fort William that’ll top this. Hosts were amazing from start to finish, quick to respond and gave clear details about our stay. Room was beautifully presented and the balcony overlooking the loch was the icing on the cake. A very traditional but modern accommodation, close to all the major tourist attractions such as the Nevis Range and the Glenfinnan Viaduct. A perfect stay for me and my girlfriend, one that we have very fond memories of and highly recommend this hidden gem to anyone!

Amazing property,my family and I had a privilege of staying in the beautiful lodge house and we booked 2 suites, one of which was the whole upper of the floor of the lodge. It did help that the weather was amazing this weekend. The lodge is very clean and staff were amazing and helpful, providing proper Scottish welcome. Can’t wait to come back.
